There is a diversity of approaches to technology in OE. These could be simplistically conceptualised as being on a spectrum ranging from low-tech to high-tech. Typical programs are mid-tech.

Low-tech

• Minimal technology

Med-tech

• Useful, non-digital technology

High-tech

• 21st century, digital/mobile

I find myself wanting to suggest that perhaps OE programs are too conservative and homogenous, however, with required to delivering programs which offer experiences of the outdoors across the the low-high tech sprectrum.

Do we offer too much in the middle and could we benefit by pushing out the ends further into both low and high tech?
