Social Support, Social Capital & Intervention Programs

SS might be seen as one fairly tangible component of social capital. It is probably quite relevant to psychological and physical well being. It may be a psychosocial construct influenced in positive ways by intervention programs. SS has been the focus of a lot of psychological research. It could be seen as both a process (causative) factor in intervention programs, as well as an outcome.

Neill & Dias (2001) is a paper which makes some very early suggestions about social support in outdoor education programs, but does not consider the possibility of SS as an outcome of programs.

Quay (2000) has written about ‘caring’ as an outcome of OE programs with adolescents.
